New Life
We found this nest with cardinal eggs above our compost. Poor parents. Little did they know what an active spot this is. Cardinals build nests only 4-5 feet from the ground in bushes or shrubs, so the kids can easily sneak a peek. The boys were clearing out the fence line near the nest Saturday when we discovered that two of the eggs had hatched. I had to plead for them to stop working so the parents could tend to their young. The next day the nest was abandoned. I am consumed as to where the babies might be. Did an animal get them? Did the parents some how move them? Did they quickly learn how to fly? Seems impossible. I can only hope for the best...maybe how Mickey Shunick's parents are hoping for the best concerning their missing daughter.
