Field Trip to Avery Island

One of the greatest perks of homeschooling: not having to sit in a classroom to learn! Since we're studying animals this month in science and nature study, we took off for Avery Island and spent the day observing and reading about alligators and snowy white egrets. First of all, Avery Island is a diamond in the ruff. The weather was magnificent. And we had ample opportunity to get close to the gators and egrets. How awesome to sit under beautiful Live Oaks and read about the animals and then walk yards away to observe in action what we had just learned! One of the pics above is in the Timber Bamboo area. Here we observed bamboo growing at different stages and even climbed some of the larger stalks.
