Art & Crafts

Once a week we usually do an art craft from the book Preschool Art: It's the Process, Not the Product. And the title holds true for young children. So many skills are improved through these crafts, such as increasing fine motor strength, coordination, visual perception and eye-hand coordination to name a few. All skills necessary for writing and even reading!

So what are some of the crafts we have done this year? We have made clay, play dough, salt ceramics, paper dolls (all types), sugar chalk drawings and today we made prints using foam paper. We drew our print, poked holes, applied paint with rolling pins to the foam and then viola, our printed picture! Last week we drew pictures on dark construction paper with crayons and mixed 4 Tbls. Epsom salt to 1/4 c. hot water. We painted the wash over the entire paper to form "snow" paint. The kids love the crafts listed in this book & we have many more to do! The crafts are good for older kids too (such as myself).
