The kids seem to never be at a loss for things to do out back. Here Ruth built a tee pee and Canaan built a dog house and dog yard for Ruth's "future" dog. I think we told them we'd get a small dog after we had to get rid of Oakie. Canaan had Ruth close her eyes and he led her by hand over boards and toys to show her what he had made for her. So sweet. In his left hand, if you look very closely, he's hammering a nail so she can hang her bracelet. She requested he do that so she can always remember "how happy I am today and what a marvelous day it is!"

Papa, I know you were kinda nervous with Canaan and the hatchet, but rest assure that Chap taught him how to use it safely and it provides hours of chopping for him.
