2011-2012 Schedule

I have spent the last few weeks getting our curriculum ready. We are somewhat following the Well Trained Mind (WTM) suggestions for the first graders. With our move, we never really finished 1st grade. I also regret starting my kids in Kindergarten at age 5. Canaan was not ready. So this year we will repeat some of 1st grade. For Math we are doing Math U See alpha level; Language Lessons (2nd level) for grammar; Story of the World (2nd book) for World History; Spelling Workout A (half way through); Veritas Press Phonics Museum (1st grade); Rosetta Stone for Spanish; our own stuff for Penmanship; and 30 min. independent reading with 30 min. read-a-loud of WTM recommendations. Science will consist of Physical and Earth Science using Usborne books for the first half (from Charlotte Mason recs). Bible study and memorization in evenings with Chap. They are taking piano on Mondays, Ruth has ballet on Thursdays and Canaan is moving up to Pee Wee in baseball (pitching machine). On Tuesdays and Thursdays we are trying to get them enrolled at Courtney's school.

So our goals (I write this for my benefit):

Finish by end of year Math u See, VP phonics, Grammar 2nd level, writing simple paragraphs

Finish by Christmas Spelling Workout A, Science with Usborne books

Canaan is doing much better with reading but still on Level 1. Ruth is reading Level 2 books with little help.
